SOCIAL MEDIA PREDICTIONS FOR 2022

Social media is constantly changing, with new platforms launching, old platforms introducing new features, and fickle followers quickly shifting to the next big thing and leaving behind social media of the past. The coming year looks to be a big one for social media trends, and these are the top three trends we expect are going to dominate how businesses use social media in 2022.

Social media commerce. Integrating social commerce features into social media platforms isn’t exactly new, but it is likely to see an uptake in the coming year as more platforms find seamless ways to connect social media users with products or services. Features that allow customers to connect with your product right on their favourite social media platform mean more sales and more revenue. An uprise in social media commerce means businesses who invest in great social media content will see more return on their investment, so growing an audience and posting quality content has never been more important.

New generation social media platforms. Scary as it may sound, Generation Z is no longer the future consumer but the consumer of today. Older Gen Zs are in their mid-twenties and are shaping the future of shopping. As the next generation looks for places to splash their well-earned cash, it’s time for brands to find them where they like to spend time. TikTok and Instagram currently boast the largest number of Gen Z users and are where businesses should be looking to connect with a new generation of consumers. The good news is it’s not all influencers and cheesy synchronised dance routines - these platforms offer nuanced content creation tools that allow you to get creative in branding your business.

Bare your soul. Having a social conscience is trending in a big way in 2022, with customers wanting to get to know a brand and what’s important to it. Think about the family or community values that drive your business, the processes you take to improve your sustainability or the causes close to your heart that you commit to giving back to. Most importantly, make sure any demonstration of social conscience is authentic, as you’ll receive more negative backlash from consumers who think you’re trying to bandwagon a cause for sales.
